Registering electricity in a house

Signing up for electricityin a home is quite easier than many people think. All you need is someone to explain the steps to follow and that is what we are here for: to take away all your doubts at the moment of signing up for electricity!

Applying for registration with the supplier

In order to register the electricity supply in your home, you must apply to the supplier of your choice, who will carry out the process and take charge of all the formalities with the distributor in your geographical area.

It is important to know that the distributor will be responsible for carrying out the installations and any technical adjustments, as well as informing you and installing the electricity meter. The distributor, on the other hand, will be responsible for providing you with the service and sending you the corresponding bill.

Differences with changing company

Signing up for an electricity supply is not the same as the above. It is only the process of changing from one supplier to another, but maintaining the service, without cancelling it on any occasion.

What does it mean to request registration?

We ask for a new electricity supply in a newly built home or in a home in which the electricity supply has been previously disconnected.

What do I have to present?

In order to register the electricity supply in a new house, you must present the following documents:

  • Electronic bulletin carried out by an electrician with accreditation.

  • Certificate of habitability. In the case of new homes, we must show the First Occupancy or First Opening Licence.

  • CUPS. Code that allows us to identify the electricity contract. To understand it better, it is as if it were "your DNI".

  • Photocopy of Passport, NIE, Certificate of Self-Employment or DNI. If we want to register the electricity for a company, we must also present a copy of the CIF and clarify the position of the person placing the order.

How long does it take to activate the service?

It can take up to 7 working days to complete the application for the electricity supply. This is the time it usually takes for the distributor to register the electricity order for a new house and then receive all the documents sent by the supplier. If 10 days or more have passed and the service has still not been activated, it is advisable to file a complaint.
